Eclipse Science Working Group Charter

November 2020 - Revision history at end. Purpose The Science Working Group (SWG) works to solve the problems of making science software inter-operable and interchangeable. The SWG, hosted by the Eclipse Foundation, is a collaborative effort involving industry, academia, and government to develop reusable open source software for scientific research. The SWG provides governance and infrastructure to establish common principles, and enable a collaborative approach to producing technologies used for interdisciplinary analysis of scientific data.

Eclipse SOA Initiative

Version October 14, 2009 (Approved) Charter Purpose and Scope The SOA platforms used across industries are characterized by vendor-specific offerings lacking interoperability, e.g. between different ESBs. Although Web Service and REST technologies are widely accepted, they are neither sufficient to build a SOA nor to ensure interoperability between SOA products. A common SOA platform, based on Eclipse or any other technology, has not been adopted across the software industry. With Eclipse SOA Tooling Platform (STP) and Eclipse SOA Runtime (Swordfish) key technologies are available for design time and runtime that have the potential to establish a common SOA platform.

Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle Working Group Charter

Version 1.1 - Revision history at end of document Vision and Scope The mission of the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Working Group is to provide a forum for individuals and organizations to build and promote open source software, specifications, and open collaboration models needed to create a scalable, modular, extensible, industry-ready open source licensed vehicle software platform to support in-vehicle and around the vehicle systems development and deployment. The primary objective of the Eclipse SDV Working Group is to encourage, develop, and promote open source solutions that will be able to compete successfully in the challenging and fragmented markets of the automotive industry ecosystems around the globe.

Guidelines for Management of Working Group Funded Development Efforts and Initiatives

Version 1.0 January 21, 2022 Objective: At the Eclipse Foundation, most open source projects progress using developers who are employed by members, self-employed, or volunteers. In some instances Working Groups may, in exceptional circumstances, choose to allocate a portion of their budget to fund development efforts in support of the projects within their purview. Working Groups with applicable budgets are able to take advantage of an initiative to spend funds to contract development efforts to advance the working group and/or its associated projects.

Vision and Scope The Jakarta EE working group will drive the evolution and broad adoption of technologies derived from or related to the Eclipse Enterprise for Java (EE4J) project. Eclipse Enterprise for Java (EE4J) is an open source initiative to create technical specifications, implementations of those APIs, and technology compatibility kits for Java runtimes that enable development, deployment, and management of server-side and cloud-native applications.

What is the purpose of a working group? An Eclipse Foundation working group is a special-purpose consortia of Eclipse Members interested in supporting a technology domain. They are intended to complement the activities of a collection of Eclipse Foundation open source projects. Open source projects are excellent for many things, but they typically do not do a great job with activities such as marketing, branding, specification and compliance processes, and the like.

MicroProfile is an open source, vendor neutral, collaborative, initiative that creates technical specifications, APIs, and technology compatibility kits (TCKs) for Java runtimes that enables the development, deployment, and management of cloud-native microservices. The MicroProfile community owns the responsibility to collaborate on and release open source specifications, and to promote, evangelize and market MicroProfile in the marketplace.
